There is no question that Montreal Canadiens star forward Cole Caufield is a cornerstone of the franchise and a key piece of their future. Caufield looks to be a pure goal scorer and will be lighting the lamp in Montreal frequently. After this season concludes, Caufield will be a restricted free agent and he will be looking to cash in with a hefty contract.

TV color commentator Mike Johnson indicates that Caufield's next contract might mimic what Tim Stutzle from the Ottawa Senators just signed for. Stutzle's deal was an eight year deal worth almost sixty-seven million dollars. That works out to an average salary of $8.35 million per season. It does seem like NHL players and their agents like to use comparisons of other players when negotiating new contracts. Like Caufield, Stutzle is a big part of his team's future as well.
