The third overall pick in the latest NHL entry draft left a lot of people confused last night when he hopped off the ice following a collision along the boards. Adam Fantilli of the Columbus Blue Jackets didn't return to the game against the Seattle Kraken after getting tangled up with Jared McCann. However, no one was clear on exactly what the problem was.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have since announced on X that Fantilli won't be playing against the Blues tomorrow, and the reason is because he received a cut on his leg from a skate blade during the play with McCann. The team did not say how long Fantilli will be out, but he'll be re-evaluated when the Blue Jackets' current road trip ends.
There doesn't seem to be any blood visible in the video. However, it's clear the whole time that Fantilli either couldn't, or didn't want to put any pressure at all on his left leg. Hopefully, the cut wasn't too serious. Fantilli, 19, has been one of the only bright spots for Columbus in what has otherwise been a terrible season. Fantilli is fourth among NHL rookies so far in 2023-24, with 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) in 49 games. He is second on the Blue Jackets in points behind Johnny Gaudreau (31).
