Concerning update regarding Caps' Backstrom health
Over the last decade or so, two players have been synonymous with the Washington Capitals organization, Alex Ovechkin and Nickolas Backstrom. On and off the ice it seems these two have been inseparable throughout their careers in Washington. However, with the passing of time, people age and it sounds like Backstrom might be nearing the end of his career.
After a nagging hip injury limited the 34 year old backstrom to just 47 games this year, backstrom sounds like it might be time to call it a day.
I want to be back to normal, not worrying about this
Caps' general manager Brian McClellan added onto hat Backstrom told reporters by saying
It's hard for him to play
If Backstrom is in a position to have significant hip surgery at 34, one must look at the long term effects a recovery like that would take on his body. His teammates have also said that he, like Shea Weber during last years playoff run was doing everything he could just to get dressed.
One has to wonder, at what point does quality of life outweigh the game of hockey?
