Don Cherry answers a question about his friendship with Ron MacLean
It's been almost 3-years since Don Cherry was fired from Hockey Night in Canada. Sportsnet fired Cherry for what they deemed an inappropriate comment, but what many don't remember is Cherry was on a 15-second time delay. Which means Sportsnet saw no issue with the comment before they aired it and only fired him due to the backlash.
As the situation unfolded, Cherry's counterpart and friend Ron MacLean did everything in his power to retain his own job. MacLean drew a lot of criticism for not standing with his friend who had stuck his neck out for him on multiple occasions. MacLean has been under fire since the incident occured.
Recently Joe Warmington caught up with Cherry and had an opportunity to ask him about his friendship with MacLean. Cherry was very candid with his answer.
It's hard to blame Cherry for this sort of response, especially after years of protecting MacLean.
