Duncan Keith knocked unconscious after hard collision with the boards
Last night in Edmonton during the Blackhawks versus Oilers game, former Blackhawk Duncan Keith took a violent fall into the end boards, leaving him unconscious on the ice. The fall occurred when Keith got his skate tied up with Sam Lafferty. The fall left Keith vulnerable as he struck the end-boards back first.
After remaining on the ice for a couple of minutes Keith was helped off the ice by teammates and the Oilers' medical staff. He did not return to the game. This is the type of incident that no one likes to see.
Today the Oilers announced that Keith had entered NHL concussion protocol, but that the veteran defenseman had also sustained an upper-body injury on the play. The timeline for Keith's return was set at 1-2 weeks, but that is pending his removal from the NHL's concussion protocol.
