What started off as a great development year for the Detroit Red Wings, has slowly began to sour. After years of success the Red we had to finally enter a full rebuild. The full rebuild is the cost of perennial success in the NHL, so an accepted process in Detroit.
The Detroit Red Wings have already been eliminated from the playoffs this season, leaving some players frustrated. Everyone knows losing isn't fun, but it's a part of the process. Some of that frustration boiled over after an effortless 6-1 loss to the Florida Panthers.
Following the game today Red Wings' Captain, Dylan Larkin addressed concerns about his team's level of effort.
I'm not sure. At times yes, at other times no. Like you said we are running out of runway and we have to end the season here on a positive note and we have tough competition but we have 2 weeks left to figure things out and end on a positive note to go into the summer.
I've said it a lot, someone can't push you out the door like it's minor hockey and give you candy after the game. You have to take pride in this and you have to take pride in wearing the Wing Wheel and going out there and fighting for a job next year. There's plenty of guys in our locker room that have to do that, I would say everyone, and you have to find that yourself. It doesn't just come, you have to find it.
With these comments it's easy to see the impact Steve Yzerman is having on his team. These comments exude the confidence Yzerman did as Red Wings Captain.
