Edmonton Oilers forward receives first COVID vaccine medical exemption
Today Edmonton Oilers Head Coach, Jay Woodcroft shared news about Josh Archibald's status with Sportsnet's Mark Spector.
He is an available player for us going forward. HIs cardiologist has been able to get a medical exemption for him.
Archibald who had previously been unavailable due to his Vaccination status had been activated through medical exemption by his cardiologist.
When the season began Gary Bettman announced that the NHL had whittled down the list of unvaccinated employees to just 4 players, as of October 2021.
The NHL is down to four players who have not received the vaccination for COVID-19, Commissioner Gary Bettman said prior to the season-opening game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Pittsburgh Penguins at Amalie Arena on Tuesday.
Our vaccination rate is incredible. Four players, not four percent of players. All of our officials are vaccinated. All of the personnel that comes into contact with the players are vaccinated.
Archibald, Zac Rinaldo Tyler Bertuzzi and Mackenzie Blackwood were the four players who made the choice to forego the COVID-19 vaccine, due to the information that they'd received throughout their preferred sources of medical and public health information. Archibald blamed the Myocarditis he contracted through his first COVID-19 infection, on a vaccine he never received.
Archibald was activated in April by the Oilers, but with the Global Health Emergency standards, being inadequate and confusing, Archibald was suspended from play outside of Edmonton, due to his vaccination status. He will not have to quarantine to enter the United States, due to the exemption.
Archibald's past linemates have been Zack Kassian and Ryan McLeod, Devin Shore, and Jujhar Khaira.
Archibald's on pace for an astonishing 10-point pace, for 82 games since returning from his initial vaccine holdout.
