As we get closer and closer to the NHL offseason, reports have strted to come out of what players will potentially be asking for. One of the top targets this offseason will be Evander Kane. This year with the Edmonton Oilers, Kane had 22 goals and 39 points in 43 games. Those numbers translate to 42 goals and 75 points in a full 82 game season. Whether he could put up those types of numbers not playing alongside Connor McDavid is another question, but a bet some teams may be willing to take.
Before Evander Kane's personal and legal troubles, he signed a 7-year $49 Million contract that started in the 2018-19 season. The San Jose Sharks believed Kane was a $7 Million per year player 3 years ago. Now the 30-year-old Kane believes he is worth just as much now.
As per Kevin Weeks, he believes Evander Kane will ask for at least $7 Million per season to stay with the Oilers and keep playing alongside Connor McDavid. If he were to sign with another team outside of Edmonton, Evander Kane will be looking for at least $8 Million per year. The length of the deal Kane is asking for is not known right now as it may depend on the results of his ongoing lawsuit with the San Jose Sharks. With the Edmonton Oilers already near the cap ceiling I don't expect Kane to re-sign in Edmonton. It looks like he'll be looking for a new team to call home this offseason.
