Family of Damar Hamlin provides first update after the safety collapsed on Monday night
When Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field on Monday night it was clear that the 24-year-old was suffering a medical emergency. After a heavy collision the safety stood up, and then collapsed to the field. The game was immediately stopped and Hamlin was given emergency attention on the field.
Both CPR and an AED device were used on the field to restart Hamlin's heart. As he was removed from the stadium he was intubated and using assisted breathing. Since then Hamlin's vitals have stabilized, but he has been placed into a medically induced coma.
Today Damar Hamlin's Family provided as much of an update as possible and thanked fans for their support and prayers.
On behalf of our family, we want to express our sincere gratitude for the love and support shown to Damar during this challenging time. We are deeply moved by the prayers, kind words, and donations from fans arOund the country.
We also want to acknowledge the dedicated first responders and healthcare professionals at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center who have provided exceptional care to Damar. We feel so blessed to be part of the Buffalo Bills organization and to have their support. We also want to thank Coach Taylor and the Bengals for everything they've done.
Your generosity and compassion mean the world to us. Please keep Damar in your prayers. We will release updates as soon as we have them.
Thank you,
The Hamlin Family
A GoFundMe page run by Hamlin for local children has totaled over $4,000,000 in donations since last night and continues to climb. At this time our hope has to be that no news is good news.
Our thoughts remain with the Hamlin Family and Damar as he begins this battle.
