Former Minnesota North Stars Alum Passes
More sad news from the NHL today. Today it was announced that former Minnesota North Stars player Brad Maxwell has passed away.
His family revealed the news:
We want to express our sincere gratitude for the love and support shown to us during this difficult time. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Brad «Maxy» Maxwell on September 3rd, 2023. Those who knew him were truly lucky, and he will be deeply missed. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers." said his family on his GoFundMe page.
The 66 year old had been battling lung cancer which had spread to other parts of his body.
His family had set up the fundraiser to help cover the out-of-pocket expenses of a new treatment Maxwell was undergoing.
Maxwell was drafted 7th overall during the 1977 NHL draft. He was serving as the President of the MN NHL Alumni before his passing.
Maxwell came close to winning a Stanley Cup making it to the 1981 Stanley Cup Finals. Maxwells' North Stars ended up losing to the New York Islanders in five games.
Maxwell played 612 NHL games with the North Stars, Nordiques, Maple Leafs and Rangers. In his career he scored 98 goals and 368 points.
