Former NFL star comments on why he ended up playing football instead of hockey

TJ Watt will go down as one of the best defensive ends that football has ever seen but it's comments made by the Pewaukee, Wisconsin native about the game of hockey that have people talking recently.

Watt recently responded to a comment from someone who had indicated to him that his uncle coached him and his brother back in the day while the two played ice hockey.

He proceeded to mention that his uncle had expressed that they both could have made it professionally however their mother believed that football was the safer sport.

While the Watts had three boys, there is no indication which brother the tweet was In reference to. TJ and Derek Watt play Outside Linebacker and Fullback respectfully for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In response to the tweet, JJ responded with <>. Watt expressed that the biggest barrier to entry for hockey is the expense associated with it. He went on to mention that Soccer is the world's most popular sport in large part because all you need is a ball.

Watt finished by saying that

As someone who has participated in para ice hockey for the better part of twenty-five years, Watt's comments are accurate, even after receiving grants and sponsorship, I was easily spending $1000-2000 a year, which is on the light side of fees and cost associated with playing the game.
