Evgeny Svechnickov was an offensive powerhouse when he played for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the Quebec Majour Junior Hockey League. During the 2014-15 season he put up 78 points in 55 games. He was then taken 19th overall at the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Detriot Red Wings. Svechnickov returned to Cape Breton for the 2015-16 season where he put up 79 points in just 50 games. The following year he was promoted to the AHL affliate of the Red Wings, the Grand Rapids Griffins, where he had an impressive 51 points in 74 games during the regular season. The Griffins won the Calder Cup that year and Evgeny Svechnikov had an impressive playoffs where he had 12 points in 19 games. All signs were pointing to a promising developement but he hasn't quite been able to bring that same offensive game to the NHL.

Last year, Svechnikov played with the Winnipeg Jets, only putting up 19 points in 72 games. He was on a one-year $750k contract, very affordable for any team. But so far Svechnikov hasn't signed anywhere and the frustration is showing as he has now fired his agent.

Evgeny Svechnikov is the perfect type of player for any team to take a chance on. He is only 25-years-old and could still find his game in the NHL. If not, he'll most likely come at an affordable price and you can let him walk. It seems like his former agent wasn't selling his client properly to prospective teams.
