Former youth hockey coach pleads guilty to child luring and other related charges
A former youth hockey coach from British Columbia has been sentence to 3.5 years in jail after he pled guilty to child luring and child pornography charges. The coach in the case, who cannot be named due to a publication ban, was charged in September of 2019 by the Port Moody Police.
The former coach pled guilty to importing and distributing child pornography, as well as attempting to use telecommunications to lure someone under the age of 18.
The investigation spanned multiple states and provinces and had exploited over 200 youths. A representative told CBC News 5-#5 the man had worked as a head coach for a youth team on a one-year contract from 2018-2019. He was also an assistant coach in 2013.
According to the league there were "no red flags ever raised and he'd passed a criminal background check before he was hired.
This is another black eye on Hockey Canada at this time, among many other things. This gets added to the list of sexual assault investigations, vaccine policies and other activities that have been heavily criticised over the past decade.
