Full details of the Nazem Kadri contract revealed
Yesterday, Nazem Kadri shocked the hockey world when he announced he'd signed a contact with the Calgary Flames. Rumors had persisted that Kadri had previously agreed to a contract with the New York Islanders. That clearly was not the case.
The contract was initially revealed as a 7-year deal with an annual cap hit of $7,000,000 but didn't reveal the full payments involved in the deal or its trade protection clauses.
The #Flames 7 year 7M Cap Hit Kadri Deal:
Year 1-4: 4.5M Base & 2.5M Signing Bonus
Year 5: 6M Base & 1M SB
Year 6-7: 7M Base Salary
No Move Clause first 4 years, 13 team no trade list years 5-7
Kadri will receive signing bonuses for the first 5 years of the deal before his contract switches to entirely salary. The significance of this? This makes Kadri's contract a potential buyout candidate in years 6-7.
For the first 4 years of his deal Kadri also has the protection of a no movement clause, before the deal switches to a modified no trade list for years 5-7.
Kadri's deal is significantly different structurally be the one signed by Jonathan Huberdeau. In Huberdeau's contract the signing bonuses continue into the final years making the deal buyout proof.
