With NHL Training Camps scheduled to start next month, there are many players that remain on the free market. Some of those players are growing impatient, while others have their deals agreed upon and are just waiting on teams to clear cap space.
One of those remaining free agents is former Arizona Coyote, Phil Kessel. Kessel currently sits 7 games shy of tying the NHL's Ironman streak, currently held by defenseman Keith Yandle.
While other players wait, Kessel may actually already be in agreement on a deal. According to Sportsnet's Hockey Insider Jeff Marek revealed there might be a possible deal between Kessel and the Edmonton Oilers, that would have Kessel heading back to Canada.
This would be a good pick up for the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers desperately need to acquire secondary scoring and Kessel would provide just that. Last year the Oilers made it to the Western Conference before falling to the eventual Cup Champion, Colorado Avalanche.
He'd score there, there's no denying that. Kessel was in a difficult spot with the Arizona Coyotes last season, Kessel would feel rejuvenated playing with the likes of, Connor McDavid, Leon Draisiatl, and Evander Kane. Kessel isn't the player he once was but, even on at 34-years-old he can still provide some offence and with his experience of winning two Stanley Cups in Pittsburgh he could provide leadership in Edmonton if they do indeed make a deal.
