Insider reveals 2nd round picks may have more value than 1st round picks at the trade deadline
The 2023 NHL Draft is viewed as one of the deepest drafts in recent history. The draft is headlined by Generational Talent, Connor Bedard, Adam Fantilli and Matvei Michkov. The talent doesn't stop there though and many scouts believe teams will find 1st round talents deep into the second round.
According to Elliotte Friedman teams are so high on this year's draft class that teams are valuing 2nd round picks this year, over 1st round picks next year.
With the feeling that this year's draft is better than the next one, will teams offered a first-rounder in 2024 prefer a high second-rounder in June if the option is available?
This element creates a very unique concept and could generate some interesting scenarios at the deadline and beyond. For teams like the New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens, with multiple 1st round picks, this could be a very interesting year.
