Last night the Avalanche eliminated the Oilers in a clean sweep of their Western Conference Finals matchup. With the victory comes the old superstition of whether or not the team should touch the Championship trophy.
Thanks to a lip reader, we have a bit more context to why the Avalanche players touched the cup.
According to this tweet, Joe Sakic told the players to "touch the damn trophy."
Joe Sakic had touched the trophy back in the 2001 playoffs and luck had it that the Avalanche won the cup that year. I guess for Sakic, the superstition is to "Touch The Damn Trophy."
