Joe Thornton finally makes decision on if he'll retire or continue to play
Joe Thornton is regarded as one of the best players to have never won a Stanley Cup. Over his 24-year career Thornton has played 1714 career games and tallied 1539 career points over that time. Thornton player the majority of his career between the Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks, before choosing to chase a Cup elsewhere.
Over the past two seasons Thornton decided to try his hand at winning a Cup with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers. Both of those quests fell short. Last season Thornton's game fell off so much he wasn't even an option for the Panthers in the playoffs, playing only one game.
While many expected Thornton to call it a career after last season, it appears that isn't the route Jumbo Joe is going to take. Yesterday it was announced Thornton has accepted the role to be the Head of Sport for the Spengler Cup once his career ends.
While Thornton appears to have his post hockey career figured it out, he still remains interested in finding a team for his 25th season. So it will be interesting to see of any team is willing to take a chance on Thornton who just turned 43 last month.
