Johnny Gaudreau and his camp have reportedly ghosted the Flames
The Calgary Flames have a lot of moving parts ahead of free agency opening on July 13. The situation mainly revolves around superstar forward Johnny Gaudreau. Gaudreau is coming off his best NHL season by far. It also happened to take place in the last year of his contract.
Now, according to Pierre LeBrun of TSN, Gaudreau has for all intents and purposes, shut down negotiations between his camp and the Flames. Calgary has a contract offer on the table for him, but Gaudreau and his came are choosing not to respond.
This seems fishy to say the least. It seems like Gaudreau wants to test the open market, but if that's the case, why not tell the team you've been with for your entire career?
It seems the more this drags out before July 13th, the more the business and working relationship between the Flames and their star player erodes.
As the clock ticks down to free agency, is Gaudreau going to be on the move? With each passing day it seems more and more likely. We also can't forget as things near, Gaudreau will move into a situation where he is no longer allowed to sign an 8-year deal, officially negating any advantage the Flames have.
