Multiple players expected to be placed on waivers at 2pm, as buyout period begins
With the National Hockey League off-season in full swing. Teams are making moves, getting ready to buy, getting ready to sell and in some cases, getting ready to buyout players that have not lived up to expectations as anticipated.
According to Cap Friendly, the first buyout period of the NHL off-season begins today. Teams can now place players they wish to buyout on unconditional waivers for the purpose of buying those players out as of today at 2pm. For players that have a no-movement clause they can skip waivers and just go straight to the buyout.
This would give teams a chance to clear a small amount of cap space ahead of free agency which opens on July 13th, but I would presume this phase of the buyout period would be mainly for the those teams that would like to get rid of those players that have no movement clause.
It'll be interesting to see which players on which teams are on the chopping block at 2pm ET today, and which one of these buyouts is the next to sign with the Arizona Coyotes. The Coyotes are like the island of misfit toys, except instead of toys, is the island of the misfit contracts
