Pavel Datsyuk makes an announcement about his hockey future

After 26 years of playing professional hockey in the NHL and in Europe, "The Magic Man" Pavel Datsyuk has officially hung up his skates. Datsyuk, 43, is set to turn 44 in a few weeks, believed now was the right time to hang up his skates. Retirement would allow him to enjoy other things in life, other than hockey.

An entire generation of kids grew up trying to emulate some of the incredible things Datsyuk did on the ice. Datsyuk's skill and determination allowed him to do things at a speed, not many before him could accomplish.

The Detroit Red Wings legend is currently preparing for a charity farewell game being hosted by former NHLer Alexander Semin.

Datsyuk shared his retirement plans with the media at the event and would share this:

Everything is logical, I just
haven't officially announced it yet. Everything is logical, everyone understands. I will definitely announce, with great pleasure and respect for the fans, for everyone who helped me.

Datsyuk remains one of the biggest steals in NHL Draft history. He was selected by the Detroit Red Wings who drafted him in the sixth round in 1998. Datsyuk would go on to play in 14 season's in the NHL and would score 314 goals and rack up 918 points in 953 games.

Datsyuk would also win 2 Selke Trophies, 4 Lady Byng Trophies, and 2 Stanley Cups! Not bad for a sixth round pick eh?
