If Johnny Gaudreau does not re-sign with the Calgary Flames before the start of free agency on July 13th, he will be the most sought after free agent on the market. After coming off a career year where he scored 40 goals and was tied for second in the league in points with 115. Only Connor McDavid had more points. Now at 28-years-old, Gaudreau looks like he might test free agency for the first time in his career.

Gaudreau grew up in southern New Jersey and he has been linked to multiple teams in the area, including the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers. But now another team has emerged out west with lots of cap-space and looking at making a splash.

According to Pierre Lebrun with TSN, the Seattle Kraken have emerged as a wild card team to land the pending unrestricted free agent. The Kraken have over $20 million in cap space for next season. Seattle was hoping to be at least battling for a playoff spot this past season but never came close. Adding a dynamic forward like Johnny Gaudreau in his prime would definitely help them become more competitive. But there have just been too many rumblings of him going to a Metropolitan division team that it would be an odd choice to stay out west. If the Seattle Kraken offer Gaudreau a number much higher than everyone else, it may be too good to pass up.
