Ken Holland and the Edmonton Oilers place two players on season ending injured reserve
The Edmonton Oilers are expected to be a Stanley Cup contending team. After a disappointing exit from the playoffs last season in the Western Conference Finals, the Oilers have high hopes. If the Oilers are going to make a run at the Cup it'll be without two players.
Today the Oilers announced they'd placed both Mike Smith and Oskar Klefbom on long-term injured reserve.
At this time it's expected that both Smith and Klefbom's careers are over. It was noted earlier this summer that both Smith (undisclosed) and Klefbom (shoulder) failed their physicals.
The moves will allow the Oilers to exceed the salary cap by $6,367,000 this year.
