Kyle Dubas and the Toronto Maple Leafs reportedly targeting Western Conference defenseman
If the Toronto Maple Leafs were looking to add to their blueline Carson Soucy is a name that has been rumored to be out there and high on their list. Soucy was claimed by Seattle from the Minnesota Wild in the expansion draft back in 2021. Soucy has played well for the Kraken and has been a stabilizing presence on the blueline.
Toronto might express interest in Soucy depending on how long-term Jake Muzzin is out of the lineup for. Some reports suggest Muzzin's career could be over with all the head and neck injuries that he has suffered. In thirteen games Soucy has recorded one goal and three assists. He is a fifth-round pick of the Minnesota Wild back in 2013.
Reliable steady defenseman are hard to come by in the NHL so surely Toronto is not the only team interested in Soucy if he is on the trading block. Also, Seattle is currently second in their division and playing well. The Kraken might not want to adjust their lineup too much or it might take an exceptional offer to acquire Soucy. Soucy is in the last year of his contract that currently pays him a reasonable $2.75 million per season. After this season, Soucy is an unrestricted free agent. It's a long season so if Seattle falls out of playoff contention a deal could be imminent. Especially if Seattle is not going to renew Soucy's contract.
