The Detroit Red Wings have got off to a pretty good start this season. The Red Wings had a pretty busy off season as Steve Yzerman has been trying hard to get them back to the dynasty days of when he was a player. Yzerman spent the summer reconstructing his roster ahead of what he hopes is a season they compete for a playoff spot.

But today a strange note was made of the Red Wings roster and Jacob Vrana no longer being listed on it.

The Red Wings said that Vrana would be absent for personal reasons and haven't commented any further. By removing Vrana from the Active Roster, this gives the Red Wings the chance to replace him with another player as the roster size of the team was maxed out.

Today though the NHL revealed exactly why Vrana was removed.

The National Hockey League Players' Association and National Hockey League announced today that forward Jakub Vrana of the Detroit Red Wings will be unavailable to his Club for an indefinite period while he receives care from the player assistance program of the NHL and NHLPA.

Under the terms of the joint program, Vrana will continue to be paid while receiving treatment. He will return to the Club when cleared for on-ice competition by the program administrators.

Vrana's care will be administered pursuant to the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Vrana at this time.
