Mikhail Sergachev cheap shots Conor Garland right in front of the referee and gets away with it
The NHL referees have been under fire on multiple occasions this season for their terrible officiating. It appears that referendum might be back on after a very questionable non-call during the Vancouver Canucks versus Tampa Bay Lightning game.
The incident in question occured in the final minute of tonight's game. With the Canucks pressing Conor Garland went to the net worth pressure. After the whistle Mikhail Sergachev pulls Garland aside, pulling off his helmet. That's when Sergachev and Garland appear to separate. That is until Sergachev delivers a gloved cheap shot.
On the play the referee was looking directly at the play, but decided that somehow Sergachev's actions didn't warrant a penalty. This blow was clearly a roughing penalty and a called penalty would have sent the Canucks to the powerplay.
Instead the game ended without a call and the Lightning went onto win 5-4.
