Multiple teams considering filing tampering charges with the NHL
The NHL communication window was put into place to allow teams to speak with free agents a week before free agency opened. This was intended to speed up the free agency process, but a couple years ago the NHL removed the window.
Ahead of free agency this summer there were multiple players who seemingly had agreed to contracts ahead of the start time of noon on July 13th. This has seemed to have drawn interest from some teams who felt they didn't have a fair shake at signing some of their own players.
I think we're going to see some tampering accusations. What I'm curious about is does this become anything actionable, does the league go after this? I got told on Wed. night after I got done work, look out, there's going to be accusations here.
According to Elliotte Friedman there appears to be multiple teams that may have concerns about tampering. Players like Jack Campbell, Claude Giroux and even Darcy Kuemper could be targets of tampering claims.
It will be interesting to see how the NHL addresses this matter as it's always been seen as an occuring practice, but this year appeared extremely egregious.
