NHL Department of Player Safety announces one hearing after last night's NHL action
After a busy beginning to the season, the NHL Department of Player Safety has been rather quiet. But during last night's action between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings, a reckless stick swinging incident by Pierre Engvall, has no drawn the DoPS's attention.
The incident occurred during the 3rd period when Engvall became engaged with Sean Durzi. The two players continued to go back and forth through the neutral zone until Engvall lost his cool.
As Durzi turns around Engvall delivered a two hand slash to the back of his head. Durzi immediately drops hard to the ice, before getting up quickly and approaching Engvall.
The initial call on the play was a major penalty for high sticking, which was upheld after review. Engvall was also issued a game misconduct for intent to injure, which triggers am immediate review of the play.
Earlier this year Kirill Kaprisov received just a fine for a similar play, so it will be interesting to see how George Parros handles this hearing.
