NHL announces if Kyle Clifford will face a hearing for his boarding penalty
In the 1st period of last night's game between the Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning, forward Kyle Clifford took a healthy run at Ross Colton. The hit sent Colton face first into the glass and Clifford was immediately penalized on the play. Clifford was assessed a 5-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct for the hit. This ejection forced the Maple Leafs to play with a short bench for 53 minutes.
Today NHL Insider, Nick Kypreos has announced the following via his Twitter account:
Kyle Clifford is scheduled for a phone hearing today with the Department of @NHL Player Safety for his hit on Ross Colton. @MapleLeafs @TBLightning @FAN590 #RealKyperandBourne
According to Kypreos, Clifford will face the NHL Department of Player Safety for a hearing. With Clifford already missing almost an entire game it's likely any punishment will be for a single game and not see him miss significant time.
