Nazem Kadri forced to call the police after being a target of death threats and racist attacks
Last night when Nazem Kadri crashed into Jordan Binnington there were immediate blowback on the Avs' forward. Kadri has a reputation as someone who often crosses the line, especially in the playoffs. But this couldn't have been further from that.
As Kadri attempted to make a play for the puck, both he and Calle Rosen crashed into Binnington. Binnington got up and tried to shake it off, but it was immediately clear that wouldn't be possible. Binnington left the game and is expected to miss at least the remainder of the series.
After the game things escalated as Binnington threw a bottle at Kadri while he completed a live interview. Apparently that's not where things ended for Kadri, after the game he began to receive both racist messages and death threats. Things escalated so far that Kadri was forced to call the police.
Talked to @43_kadri
About his inadvertent collision w Binnington. Naz has been subject to so many racist attacks and threats since last night that police had to be brought in. Racist attacks like this have no place in hockey and should be investigated and reported on.
A few of the messages he's received can be seen below:
We have elected to leave out the racist messages and the more vile comments, but they can quickly be found with any Twitter search. This behavior is absolutely despicable and something that no player should have to endure.
