The Philadelphia Flyers are currently playing their first game of the season and one of their players could already be expecting a call from NHL Department of Player Safety. The Philadelphia Flyers acquired Owen Tippett as part of the Claude Giroux trade last season. Tippett is now trying to do his best to make an impression on his new head coach.

Unfortunately that impression came at the expense of Brendan Smith. As Smith chases the puck back into the Devils zone he is pursued by Tippett. As the two close in on the end boards Tippett gives Smith a very dangerous shove. The shove sends Smith hard into the end boards.

Smith was very slow to get up and would leave the game for evaluation but would eventually return to play limited minutes. This is one of those hits that the NHL needs to remove from the game. As Tippett pursues he sees Smith's numbers the entire time. Tippett received a 2 minute minor on the play, and was lucky to not receive more.
