New York Islanders furious after being screwed by officials in Carolina
The New York Islanders finish game 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes with a sour taste in their mouth. The end result is a 4-3 overtime with for the Hurricanes.
The stat that will bother the Islanders the most is the team didn't get one power play compared to Carolina's six chances on the man advantage. The Hurricanes went going 1-for-6.
The issue wasn't the number of power-play chances for Carolina. The problem was the plays that went uncalled, none more significant than the missed high-stick by Jordan Martinook on Scott Mayfield, directly leading to Jesper Fast's overtime goal:
Mayfield went to the bench in shock that a penalty wasn't called on the play, the Hurricanes got in on an odd-man rush, and put the game to bed.
Mayfield was yelling at the refs as Carolina celebrated the win.
"You fu---d us. What the f---k were you looking at there?"
Mayfield appeared to have said as he skated off.
Teammate Zach Parise had some strong words.
"We saw Scotty on the ice covering his face,"
teammate Zach Parise said.
"I mean, I don't think he stuck himself, but I don't know."
Carolina now has a strangle hold on the series 2-0 as things shift to UBS Arena in New York on Friday for Game 3.
