Recently Deadspin released an article titled, "Is the NHL now rigging games for Connor McDavid?:
After last night's Oilers win, it sure seems that way".

This article was written after the Oilers controversial Game 5 victory against the Flames and dives into the replay of Blake Coleman's disallowed goal.

This is the angle for the Coleman goal reversal that is most convincing, in my view. But was it a distinct kicking motion? That will be debated for a long time, depending on how overtime goes.

To be frank the Flames didn't lose the series because of this goal. They lost the series because Jacob Markstrom forgot how to play like a Vezina Trophy nominees. But this goal is definitely a critical moment in the series. While watching at full speed it never seems like this puck was kicked, but if you slow something down enough and watch it long enough, you'll definitely see what you want to see.

In previous years the playoffs have been a situation where star players don't excel, while roleplayers take over. This year has been different. We've seen McDavid, Draisiatl, Matthews, MacKinnon, Marner, Stamkos and so many other stars take over games.

We've also seen far more penalties called, less hooking and grabbing tolerated. So you have to ask the question, has the NHL changed the officiating to benefit players like McDavid.

With the number of fights drastically down, has the league finally found the way to remove emotion from the game? Or is this just the evolution of star players?
