The San Jose Sharks didn't have a great season and Erik Karlsson hasn't been who they imagined he would be when they acquired him from the Ottawa Senators in 2018 for a package that included Chris Tierny, Dylan DeMelo and Josh Norris.

It's widely known that since the trade to the Sharks Karlsson hasn't been himself. Now, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, San Jose could continue to look at trading Karlsson this off-season

Friedman at the intermission says there was some very preliminary trade talks during the season involving Erik Karlsson and a couple of teams, however EF doesn't think that'll go anywhere but what it does say is having Burns & Karlsson didn't mesh as well as they would have liked.

The #SJSharks have made it clear in their GM search they still want to contend but in a tight cap world moving one of them might be something they have to explore. Burns has less term. If the opportunity comes where they get something they like, that is something to watch.

Of note here, Friedman mentions that preliminary trade talks began during the season and Friedman doesn't know if the heat will pick up as we transition into the off-season, but Karlsson and San Jose star defenceman Brent Burns aren't gelling together as everyone hoped they would. Which could mean, Karlsson or Burns could be the odd man out, if Burns decides to continue playing that is.

Karlsson, 31, had 10 goals and 25 assists this season in which he played just 50 games.

Has Erik Karlsson's time in the Snark Tank come to an end?
