Cale Fleury and Haydn Fleury were both brought in during the expansion draft in July 2021.

Fleury was taken from the Montreal Canadiens system for whom he played 41 games for the club in 2019-2020. Added as a depth option, the Kraken decided to retain his services for another year, with a two-way option.

"Cale took another step in his development last year, specifically with his offensive game while playing for Charlotte," general manager Ron Francis said in a statement.. "We are excited that we have reached an agreement for Cale to return to the Kraken organization."

Fleury played a total of 58 games in the AHL, with the Checkers putting up 7 goals and 26 assists, for a respectable 33 points. He was called up for a total of 9 games in the NHL with the Kraken.

Fleury lacked production in those 9 games, but he will be kept as a pure depth option for now.

The Kraken has a decent blueline with Vince Dunn, Adam Larsson, Jamie Oleksiak, and Carson Soucy, which Fleury, Ryker Evans, and Michael Kempny will be battling for a job in training camp on the back end of the roster.

Fleury notched seven goals and 26 assists for 33 points in 58 AHL games this season, tops for Charlotte defensemen. He's been a force behind the AHL franchise rising to second-place in its division on an extended hot streak since early January, posting a 7-2-1 record in the last 10 games as a recent example. Charlotte has the sixth-best overall record in the AHL.
