The Pittsburgh Penguins were hoping the comforts of home would help them take a 2-1 series lead. The two teams split the two games in New York. The Penguins jumped out to a early 4-1 lead after the 1st period. This offensive outburst marked the 1st time Igor Shesterkin gave up 4-goals in a single period in his career and it also marked the end of Shesterkin's night.
The change in goal would spark the Rangers as they would claw back and eventually tie the game. But that's as close as the Rangers would get to winning the game.
The Penguins would come out in the 3rd period and get the lead back on a goal by Danton Heinen and they wouldn't look back, eventually scoring an empty net goal to go up 6-4.
Most empty net goals are nothing to write him about, but this goal was different. On the play Sidney Crosby pulled out one of the best empty net assists you'll see this year.
