The Winnipeg Jets held their end of season player meetings recently with management. One that everyone was keeping an eye on was Mark Scheifele. After his comments about how the Jets' season felt like a failure and wanting to reassess his status with the team, people were wondering where he would play next season.
Saturday, hockey insider Elliotte Friedman updated what he heard about from Scheifele's meeting with the team. According to Friedman, Schiefele did not formally request a trade out of Winnipeg. That's not to say he would turn a trade down, but just that Schiefele did not tell management he is demanding a trade.
After the end of the year media availability in Winnipeg, I find it hard to believe Scheifele wants to stay there. What he said about wondering what the direction of the team is, as well as other Jets players mentioning issues with locker room chemistry, something has to change. I expect some big pieces to be moved out of Winnipeg this season. The Jets are too dysfunctional right now to not make a change.
