Hockey is a game with massive emotional swings in it. Teams will use physical play as a way to swing the tempo in their favor. Sometimes, even after a player delivers a clean it they'll be forced to defend their actions. That's exactly what happened to TJ Oshie last night.
Last night when the Washington Capitals took on the Seattle Kraken in Seattle. Oshie delivered a huge clean hit to Brandon Tanev at center ice. The hit which was delivered midway through the 1st period allowed the Capitals to take control of the play. But Kraken Captain, Yanni Gourde wasn't going to let Oshie away with it.
Oshie and Gourde are not the first people that come to mind when you think of a fight, but Gourde made it nearly impossible for Oshie to turn down the fight. I like that both players, who are typically not fighters knew that it was called for in that moment, Gourde dropped the gloves without hesitation and Oshie knew he had to answer the bell.
The Kraken would go on to win the game 3-2 in overtime.
