The Buffalo Sabres are a team that should be coming out of another rebuild attempt fairly soon. With high draft picks resulting in a number of promising prospects for the team, within a few years they should be on their way to playoff contention. For now, the team must focus on the development of their prospects, beginning with their first overall choice of Owen Power.

Now at the onset of training camp, veteran teammate Kyle Okposo had high praise for the young defenceman.

He's got a lot of a young Erik Karlsson in him Owen has similarities in how he plays.

This is a stunning commendation of Power, as a young Karlsson was one of the most offensively dominant players in the league in his prime. In his early years in Ottawa, Karlsson recorded four years with over 70 points, and one season with 82 points - dominant numbers for a defenceman.

Power, in 33 games last year with the University of Michigan, produced at nearly a point per game pace, recording 29 points.

One stark difference between the players, however, is goals scored. Power was only able to record 3 goals in each of the last two seasons, while Karlsson had several years with over 20 goals.

As it stands though, Sabres management and teammates have great faith that Owen Power will be a difference maker to their team as soon as he begins his rookie season. Whether he can live up to the production of Erik Karlsson may be questionable, but it seems certain that he will at least be an impact player.
