The Avs are planning to go all-in, make a call on an ELITE winger
The Colorado Avalanche are a top tier, Stanely Cup contending team already and they're enjoying a season in which they've blown away the competition. Fourteen points up on the second-place St Louis Blues, the Avs sit first in the central division. Are they about to make a trade that would put them over the top in pursuit of hockey's holy grail? It looks like they just might!
According to the The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, Colorado is interested in Chicago Blackhawks star winger Patrick Kane.
Kane, 33, has spent his entire NHL career with the Blackhawks. He has 55 points in 51 games this season (17 goals and 38 assists). Would this trade automatically make Colorado the cup favourites this year? And, if the answer to that question is yes, if you're an Avs fan, what would you be comfortable giving up to bring in arguably the most dominant American winger of the generation? Is Alex Newhook in the cards? Bowen Byram? It will be interesting to see how this one unfolds.
As the March 21st deadline inches closer, talks will only intensify. With only a limited number of absolute game-breakers rumoured to be available, it may take a very big push from a contending team to add the right piece - and it may cost more than fans may want to give up.
