Early this morning Matt Murray was injured during the Toronto Maple Leafs morning skate. After a drill Murray reported to the team's goaltending coach, Curtis Sanford, that he was feeling discomfort in his groin. Murray left practice and the Maple Leafs began to scramble to figure out what they were going to do in goal for tonight's game.

The Maple Leafs have called up goalie Erik Kallgren from the Toronto Marlies. He will back up Ilya Samsonov tonight against the Ottawa Senators.

«We just decided it made sense to remove him from the skate, get him assessed. and make some determinations on his status for tonight based on that. It's still too early at this point to give you any what if' type scenarios,»
Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said after the morning skate.

Kallgren was injured in the Toronto Marlies' AHL opener Friday, but has since been cleared to play.

While playing for the Maple Leafs Kallgren went 8-4-1 last season with a 3.31 GAA and .899 save percentage.

Samsonov had a rough first period against his old team on Thursday night, giving up two first period goals but was able to shut the door the rest of the way to secure the first win of the season for Toronto.

According to Elliotte Friedman the expectation is that Matt Murray will be forced to go on long-term injured reserve to make room for Kallgren's call up.
