Toronto Maple Leafs to trade Matthew Knies? One reporter believes it's an option
The Toronto Maple Leafs will return to action tonight against their Atlantic Division rivals the Ottawa Senators. This will mark their first game since the Christmas break and will see the Maple Leafs play 3 games in the next 4 nights. The Leafs currently sit 2nd place in the Atlantic and just 2 points behind the Boston Bruins.
The next two months for the Leafs will be very important as the team look to set themselves up for the trade deadline. Heading into the deadline the Leafs have already made it clear that prospects Fraser Minten, Easton Cowan and Dennis Hildeby are untouchable, but to add to their roster the Leafs will need to get creative.
According to Jonas Seigel of The Athletics, the Maple Leafs could consider moving Matthew Knies as the piece of a blockbuster deal.
Jonas Siegel of The Athletic mentions F Matthew Knies as a potential trade piece if the Maple Leafs were to move any players from their prospect pool and make a trade to bolster their roster for a playoff run.
He notes that Easton Cowan, Fraser Minten & Dennis Hildeby are likely untouchables and while Knies likely won't be moved, he will be someone many GM's Would ask for in return.
It is far more likely that the Maple Leafs would consider Knies an untouchable piece versus a trade chip. The most likely trade piece for the Leafs remains Nick Robertson, who despite consistent ice time hasn't found a comfortable spot in the Maple Leafs lineup.
