Well if the actions Tuesday night are any indication, it appears Keefe was right. If you missed the series opener in Toronto, then you missed one hell of a game. A game that featured multiple fights, multiple ejections and one of the best home crowds in years.
The game began to tilt towards the physical side less than 10-minutes into the 1st period when Kyle Clifford was ejected, and ultimately suspended 1-game for a hit on Ross Colton. The 5-minute major would give an opportunity to Tampa to take control of the game, but the Maple Leafs' penalty kill was stifling.
The physical play would pick back up in the 3rd period, with the Maple Leafs leading 5-0. Corey Perry and Pat Maroon attempted to instigate Wayne Simmonds into a fight, which Simmonds declined but only temporarily as ultimately everyone on the ice would get involved.
As a result of the battle Tuesday night the NHL Department of Player Safety has fined Simmonds, Perry and Maroon for their involvement. But if getting beat 5-0 in the opening game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs wasn't bad enough for the Lightning, they got even more embarrassed having a young Leafs' fan caught on camera talking shit to the Lightning players. A motivated Tampa team is definitely a dangerous one.
Game 2 is tonight in Toronto.
