Wayne Simmonds finally gets his fists on Patrick Maroon
Wayne Simmonds has wanted to get his hands on Patrick Maroon for the past two games. It seemed after a first period interview that Simmonds was definitely trying to goad Maroon into a fight. In the second period he finally got his wish.
During the second period of tonight's game Simmonds and Maroon came together in the Tampa zone. The play led to the two men exchanging words before they exchanged slashes. Both men finally agreed to drop the gloves near center ice.
During the fight you can see Simmonds catch Maroon with a solid shot that buckles his knee slightly but Maroon grabs hold and hangs on for the rest of the fight. Both men were issued fighting majors on the play.
Simmonds challenged Maroon again later in the game but the latter declined.
