Wings reportedly ready to wheel and deal; Bertuzzi available
NHL Insider Frank Seravalli is reporting Tuesday that the Red Wings are open for business and would be willing to deal anyone who doesn't fit into their young core, including star agitator Tyler Bertuzzi.
It's not surprising that Detriot will be sellers at the deadline with where they are in the standings. With just 55 points the Wings are 19 points out of a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. They will be looking to get some sort of return on their pending UFA's like Marc Staal, Nick Leddy, Troy Stecher and Vladislav Namestnikov as well.
It's a bit surprising that Bertuzzi's name is mentioned, given the breakout season he is having. The Sudbury, Ontario native has 24 goals and 48 points in 50 games this season.
A cap hit of $4,750,000 is certainly reasonable for the scoring, physicality and other intangible assets he brings. The Red Wings will be asking the moon for him as they should with everything he brings to the table.
The season hasn't been all bad with standout rookie performances from Mortitz Seider and Lucas Raymond. The prospect cupboard is also well stocked with defenseman Simon Edvinsson taken 6th overall in 2021 and Centre Joe Veleno taken 30th overall in 2018, among others.
