It was quite a moment for Ovechkin, his family, his teammates, and all the fans in Washington. What was even more impressive was the way the Winnipeg Jets responded. Once the game was over, each Winnipeg Jet went up to Ovechkin to shake his hand and congratulate him. If you missed watching it, the video replay is below.
Hockey has always been great about sportsmanship. The Jets sticking around to congratulate Ovechkin after their second consecutive loss was a classy thing to do. It was the right move to honor Ovechkin on a truly incredible accomplishment. It's not just the fans honoring Ovechkin, the players of other teams are too. It was a special moment in hockey history and no doubt Ovechkin will continue to put up goals and chase down the all-time goal record.
