World Juniors embarrassing attendance continues for Semi-Finals, ticket prices revealed
The World Juniors in Edmonton in August never seemed like a great idea. Add in Hockey Canada's current scandals and it was an absolute recipe for disaster. After last year's tournament was cancelled to do an asymptotic COVID outbreak, the IIHF simply wanted to try and complete the tournament. That seems to have been a mistake.
Today ahead of the Semi-Final matchup between Canada and Czechia, thousands of tickets remain available. The Athletic's, Scott Wheeler pointed out just how poorly priced this tournament was.
With the opening face-off set to take place in less than 30 minutes, tickets were priced far too high for a tournament taking place at 2 pm on a Friday afternoon.
An hour and a half before puck drop for Team 🇨🇦's semifinal game at the World Juniors, on home soil, and there appear to be thousands of tickets still available, with the cheapest seats priced at $350 for a pair without considering parking, concessions, etc.
It's clear the IIHF really dropped the ball with the planning of this tournament. From the pricing, to timing and everything in between. This tournament has done nothing to grow the game and hasn't done these athletes justice.
