The Hockey World is still trying to fathom the loss of Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew. The two brothers were killed last Thursday night in Salem County, New Jersey, after being hit by a car while on their bikes.

Many in the hockey community have sent out their thoughts and prayers. Hockey fans around the world are taking to social media to come up with other ways of honoring the Gaudreau family.

NHL Reporter David Alter suggested on his social media that the NHL should rename the Lady Byng Trophy after Johnny Gaudreau. This was the trophy that Johnny was able to capture during his career back in 2017. Gaudreau led the Calgary Flames in points and only had two minor penalties during the season.

The Lady Byng Trophy is awarded to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.

NHL players don't look at the Lady Byng Trophy in the same light as some of the other hardware that players can win. After seeing members of the media vote for the winner by only looking at the number of penalties, players don't really care about this award.

If the name was changed to the Johnny Gaudreau Trophy, it could instill some pride back into the award.
