The Toronto Maple Leafs may be interested in bringing back two NHL veterans, should they be cost-effective. This could be cost effective and a low-risk, high-reward if they both can get their careers back on track.

I think we can all agree that the two worst moves made in recent Toronto Maple Leafs history are the trade for goaltender Matt Murray, who had moments of proof he could still play well when he wasn't injured and the signing of defender John Klingberg, who, again due to injury, did not perform or play much during his time in Toronto.

However, according to Kevin McGran, a Maple Leafs reporter for the Toronto Star, both Murray and Klingberg have interest in re-signing with the team.

Perhaps we have not seen the last of John Klingberg and Matt Murray donning the Blue and White 👀

There would have to be some assurances in regards to their health and whether they have been cleared to return to play, but both could be cost effective, low-risk, with very high reward options. As David Alter also points out. Both are eligible for veterans contracts with performance bonuses built in for things like points, wins and games played.

#Leafs players Matt Murray and John Klingberg would be eligible for performance-related one-year contracts based on the parameters set forth by the NHL CBA.

The risk is little with the reward being high if done right

We'll see what happens and whether general manager Brad Treliving entertains this idea, but for now, there are worse plans out there.
