A large majority of the Toronto Maple Leafs fan base has known for a long time that if the Toronto Maple Leafs and head coach Sheldon Keefe didn't get out of the first round this year, there was likely going to be a number of changes, starting with Keefe himself. That time has finally come and to no one's surprise, the aforementioned Keefe is the first domino to fall in what will surely be a busy summer and yes, it was time for a change.

The speculation started as soon as the Maple Leafs were eliminated by the Boston Bruins in game 7 of their first round playoff series. It was then backed by the way the organization has handled the media availabilities for players and coaches along with front office staff being days after. Now according to Elliotte Friedman from Sportsnet and David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period the Toronto Maple Leafs have fired Sheldon Keefe; take a look.

Keefe has historically been a great regular season coach, but has been categorically out coached and outclassed when the playoffs begin, his inability to make adjustments on the fly during games or really at all for that matter in between games have written his fate on the wall.

Keefe should've never been back behind the bench to start the 2023-24 season, much less given a 2 year extension, now he's just another case of the Leafs paying a coach not to work for them.
